The next meeting will be on Friday, May 5 at 6:00 pm at the normal location:

Allnutt Funeral Home, 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO.

I will be hosting another grading contest.  You get to examine 3 PCGS “slabbed” coins that have the assigned grades covered up.  They are a circulated Lincoln Cent, a 1921 Peace Dollar and a Columbian Commemorative Half Dollar.  There are no “details” grades (such as cleaned, whizzed, damaged, etc), the coins all received straight grades.  You enter your grades on the entry form before the auction.  I will score the forms during the auction and announce the winner after the auction is over.  An exact match correct answer as to the letter and number grade gets 10 points, if you are 1 number grade off (say you grade it as a MS 63 and its a MS 62, or XF 45 and its a XF 40), you get 5 points, and if you hit the correct “letter” grade (Proof, uncirculated, AU, XF, VF, Fine, VG, Good, AG or Poor) you get 3 points.   The winner gets a PCGS Coin “Element Chart” poster and bragging rights as the “Top Gun Grader”.  Last week, Dan Carr won hands down with a perfect 30 out of 30.  The coins were:

1940-S Mercury Dime, NGC MS-65
1947-S Washington Quarter, NGC MS-66
1921-D Dollar, PCGS “rattler” AU-58

Minutes of the April 3, 2017 meeting:

President Dan Y. announced that the annual election of officers will be held at the June 2 meeting.  All of the positions are for a one year term.  The current officers are:

President – Dan Y.
Vice President – Ken S.
Treasurer – Carl D.
Secretary – John B.

Treasurer’s report read and details are available from Carl D.

We had 41 members in attendance.  The ounce of silver attendance prize was won by Ron W. and the $25 membership prize was not won, so that goes to $30.

The ANA member club sheet was handed out, several members helped us get the club discount by listing their ANA membership info on it.

The Spring Show report was read into the minutes by Treasurer Carl D.  All the tables were sold, and many dealers reported to me that they liked the venue and would be back next year.

Dan Carr gave a very interesting and informative talk about the “Broken Sword” Peace Dollar reverse and how it almost made it to the final production coin.  Dan had the original casting for that reverse.  Very cool and very nice presentation – thank you Dan!

Upcoming area coin shows:

Colorado Springs Thursday, June 22 thru Saturday, June 24.

The ANA World’s Fair of Money, the “biggie” in the USA, will be in Denver this year August 1-4.  Details at www.money.org.
